Stories from Rumah Kita
Kisah dari Rumah Kita
26/02/2025 - Jebat’s Story (Yesterday’s photo with Mama H & MakTok volunteers, Suli & Sharina)
Jebat, 5 years old. A child his age should be lively and playful, eloquent. But Jebat has been diagnosed with a disability since he was a baby. He uses a tube to drink milk and is completely unable to take care of himself. However, Jebat is special in the hearts of Rumah Kita and the MakTok family.
Mama H, who gave birth to Jebat, is also an unfortunate girl with a disability. Mama H was diagnosed as a level 9 slow learner. She was an orphan and was sexually assaulted by village boys until she became pregnant with baby Jebat.
In 2023, we had to release baby Jebat to be properly managed at the government-owned OKU facility. Rumah Kita does not have the skills and qualifications to properly care for children with disabilities.
Now, almost 2 years later, Jebat has since been placed at the RKK in Kedah. He is given attention by the RKK staff and we still get regular updates on him. Baby Jebat still depends on a special milk formula to survive. Maktok (volunteer of Rumah Kita) Jebat’s “adoptive grandmother” often visits him in the north of the peninsula. Occasionally, Maktok and her children, Sharina, Suli and Atiqah take Mama H with them to visit Jebat when there is time.
12/02/2024 - Found in a rental room in 2018, her mother had passed away and Rose was by her mother's side when she was found, crying hungry for mother's milk. Her mother had no identification. JKM has been working to to obtain the legal documents, but Rose is not recognized as a citizen due to failure to track who her relatives are. Ever since Rose was handed over to Rumah Kita, JKM still have not been able to trace her relatives.
Rose is grew up in Rumah Kita, cared for by our residents and volunteers. Rose's schooling is sponsored by a couple who lives in Berlin, Germany. At 4-year-old Rose was sent to kindergarten. At that age Rose was very talkative and quickly adjusted to kindergarten school. Now Rose is 7 years old. Due to her lack of citizenship, Rose can't be placed in public schools. Her sponsor wants her to go to school and agreed to send Rose to study in the North of Malaysia. A new journey in her life is about to begin.
Rumah Kita is ready to send Rose, buying all her needs and equipment to boarding school. Rose, we hope that you will become a successful person someday. Kakya, Mama Wendy, Mama Dina will visit you later. Grow up and learn well. We are heartbroken to part with Rose temporarily.

20/12/2024 - Sharing is Caring. Rumah Kita is extending its support once again to Rumah SERI Kenangan Cheras under JKM to celebrate their recent “Program Intergenerasi bersama Ayah Bonda” at the Old Folks Home. We brought cakes and spent time with the seniors residing at JKM.

28/09/2024 Gratitude to Sukida Dental Clinic for hosting Rumah Kita’s kids of volunteers and displaced mothers at their dental clinic recently.
12/08/2024 - Another success story … This is Mama “Irina”- she was born deaf and mute. She came to us when she was pregnant with her little girl, who is now 4 and is in kindergarten. Mama has also secured a retail job nearby. Parents Mama “Irina” still tak boleh accept their cucu (stigma anak luar nikah), so both mum and daughter is still at Rumah Kita. A couple of years ago, we have discovered that “Irina” can actually hear if she was fitted with premium quality hearing aids which is agak mahal.
Thankfully in 2023, she was selected by Yayasan Pelangi Malaysia under Program Saringan Pendengaran Percuma for the disadvantaged. Finally on 31st July, alhamdulillah “Irina” dah dapat new ears!!! We are so lega!!!
Now we are on the lookout for speech therapy for her. If ada sesiapa ada contact, please let me know. She needs a volunteer to help her connect the basic process of hearing-talking.

16/05/2024 - Alhamdullilah, Rumah Kita will be organising a korban/aqiqah on behalf of ALL our children. Children born by single mums, abandoned Children and Children of our hardworking volunteers. This will be our first since 2015, as we have put aside enough to make it happen this year. Qurban and aqiqah are both an act of sacrificing a livestock animal for the sake of Allah. They are sunnah muakkadah, i.e. a highly recommended act for those who have the financial means to do it.
Aqiqah is offered as a symbol of one’s gratitude (shukur) to Allah for the birth of a child. It was a practice by the Prophet ﷺ and his companions.

01/08/2023 - From the Diary of Rumah Kita’s volunteer Cecily.
“I'm extremely grateful and honoured for being recognised recently as the Advocacy Queen. As a passionate anti baby dumping advocate, this is meaningful. The true epitome of a pageant is not just the crown and sash. It's the advocacy to inspire and make a real difference in the community and beyond. It's a huge responsibility and I'm ever ready even before the pageant advocating for my cause through my platform Save A Life. Being a part of Rumah Kita for 5 years now as a dedicated volunteer, spokesperson and partnering with them on my cause has been nothing but a blessing.
We have been making collective effort for a common cause, creating awareness, supporting vulnerable communities and spreading nothing but love.
During my 7 months journey in the pageant, my pageant sisters and I together with the organisation were able to raise funds of RM10,000 for groceries and baby products for Rumah Kita. I was super happy!
I dedicate this title to you my dearest friend Suraya Razak and the Rumah Kita team. From the bottom of my heart, I'm forever grateful for your unwavering support, believing in me and in my noble cause to prevent baby dumping within the community.
As we bask in the glow of this victory, let us continue this journey together remaining dedicated to the noble cause that brought us together.
Cecily Andrews Fourrier, 4th Runner up of Mrs Malaysia International World 2023, Advocacy Queen and Mrs. Vivacious

26/05/2023 - Selamat Jalan, Jebat Dear Baby Jebat. We first met you on 4 September 2020, when you first came into the world. Over the past months, we have had the joy and privilege of helping to care for you. We made so many memories together, and we are grateful for everyone. That is something that is very special to us and that we will always remember. Despite your challenging health, you turned out to be such a sweet boy. You have experienced so much hardship in life, yet you continue to amaze us every day with your determination to live and incredible smile.
Today is bittersweet. You have been an amazing little boy. We always knew that this day would come, the day where you have to eventually transition from our transit home to a JKM certified OKU care centre. We are SAD that we will not see your big smile around anymore, but we must take comfort that you are now in the hands of experts in disability care.
I hope you find peace and happiness in your new care home in Jitra with people who will hopefully love and care for you as much as we do. Always remember, there are so many people in the world that love you deeply. This isn’t “good bye”, it is “see you later”, and we will see you soon, dearest Baby Jebat. May Allah continue to guide and illuminate your path.
Love, Suraya Razak – Head of Rumah Kita and Sharina Shahrin - Projek Jebat Team Lead

04/10/2022 - Jebat Update-
Anak Syurga OKU Baby Jebat has been admitted to the hospital for the 3rd time this year. Past few days he has been losing weight and appetite. In addition to all the kids falling sick, his already compromised immune system was hit hard.
He’s being accompanied at HKL tonight. Seems like he caught whatever infection in addition to his already existing respiratory condition. Suction removed a lot of phlegm from his nose. Could finally sleep at 2am.
Please send us your prayers that this will pass for his poor little body.

29/08/2022 - A Gratitude Post -
Terima Kasih to Ender Pal Foundation for Children for contributing a Toyota to us recently. It's a meaningful one as the beautiful Miss Enderpal (a regular donor of Rumah Kita) returned to GOD in May.
Her husband wanted to fulfill her wishes by contributing this gift to us. It rained on the day we received the car, and indeed, it was a sign from the heavens that Miss Enderpal was with us.
Part of the cash donations by the foundation was from her grievance donations.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Enderpal foundation and may her soul rest in peace.

P/s: We welcome any volunteers to teach music, art, basic pre-school on weekends (AM).
13/06/2022 - Cukur Jambur - "In Islam, a baby’s hair should be shaved off on the seventh day from the baby’s birth. It’s sunnah, which means it’s the tradition of our prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In another Hadith, reported by Abu Dawood, it states that ‘The removal of harm is shaving the head.’ Muslims believe that shaving a baby’s head removes him from harm and weakness. But it’s not just Muslims that believe in shaving their baby’s hair. It’s also a tradition amongst Native Americans and Hindus. Pictured here : volunteer Abah JS and a newborn over the weekend."

From an underprivileged family in the North, Mummy A was late into her pregnancy when she was sent to Rumah Kita by her sister. Out of shame (for the time being), she is hidden away from the rest of her family. We recently brought Mummy A to a Hearing Centre for a test and to our surprise, she’s not completely deaf! 12/09/2020 - A Lost Soul - “I’ve only ever known life in a welfare home. I was sent to an orphanage at the age of 3. From then until my schooling days, I have never experienced any form of parental love. At the age of 15, I begged to leave the orphanage in hopes that I would try to forget the past and I would be accepted by my biological family… Here my story begins..”
